Video Editing: Filmora vs Movavi Video Suite – Which One to Choose?

In this guide
Want to edit your holiday videos, create content for YouTube, TikTok or Instagram, or record your screen for a tutorial? There are free programs, but they’re often too limited or too complicated. In this guide we compare the free alternatives with two easy-to-use paid programs: Wondershare Filmora and Movavi Video Suite, both with a lifetime licence.
The short version
- Free: Clipchamp (included in Windows 11) is fine for short videos; DaVinci Resolve is extremely powerful but hard for beginners.
- Filmora: the best for social media content, with lots of effects and AI tools.
- Movavi Video Suite: the most complete package for the family, with an editor, screen recording, a converter and slideshows.
Free or paid?
Free editors usually have one of these limits: a watermark on the exported video, a low maximum resolution, few effects or an interface made for professionals. A simple paid editor saves you hours and gives you more polished results from your very first video.
- Clipchamp: already in Windows 11, ideal for trimming and joining clips in a few minutes. Some effects and features are paid.
- DaVinci Resolve: free and professional, but it needs a powerful PC and a bit of learning.

Which one to choose
Filmora: for people who post on social media
Filmora has a modern interface, ready-made formats for vertical (9:16), square and landscape, and lots of automatic tools: subtitles generated from the audio, background removal, animated text effects and music. It’s perfect if you want to post often without spending hours editing.
Movavi Video Suite: everything in one package
Movavi Video Suite is a set of programs: Video Editor for editing, Screen Recorder for recording your screen (lessons, tutorials, video calls), a converter to change video formats and a tool for making slideshows with photos and music. It’s the right choice if your household needs a bit of all of these.
Your first video in 5 steps (with either one)
- Import photos and clips by dragging them into the program window.
- Drag them onto the timeline in the right order and cut the parts you don’t need.
- Add titles and transitions between scenes.
- Add music and lower the volume where people are talking.
- Export in the right format: MP4 for your computer, 9:16 for TikTok and Reels, 16:9 for YouTube.
